For those who enjoy some crafty froths, a new Fleurieu Beer Festival has been announced for January.

Taking place on Saturday 25 January 2020 - the Saturday of the Tour Down Under weekend - the event brings eight of the Fleurieu Peninsula’s breweries together for an afternoon of hoppy delights at Willunga Recreation Park.

Local Willunga breweries South Coast Brewing Co and Shifty Lizard Brewery Co will be joined by McLaren Vale breweries Goodieson Brewery, Swell Brewing Co and and Victor’s Place; Myponga-based Smiling Samoyed Brewery, Carrickalinga’s Fork Tree Brewery and Happy Valley-based Mephisto Brewing Co.

Since January 2010, Mary and Jeff Goodieson have been brewing from their Sand Road, McLaren Vale brewery. They predominantly produce European-style beers.

Mary says the new event is “a great opportunity to showcase the burgeoning brewing scene on the Fleurieu Peninsula”.

“As it’s on Tour Down Under Saturday, it is really special to us, as we sold our first brews at a Tour Down Under market 10 years ago,” she says.

The couple are looking forward to launching a new beer, which they hope to have available for festival patrons. 

“We will be launching a new Hazy IPA in January, so all being equal we will have that there on tap,” Mary says.

As well as beer, there will be local food, burgers, a BBQ, coffee, and ice cream on the menu at the event.

It’s hoped the new festival will become a regular part of the local event scene.

“Being the first year, it is a fairly simple setup; it is only five hours long, and we really all just thought it would be a great opportunity for people to come and drink a few different beers being brewed on the Fleurieu,” Mary says.

“Anytime you can get several breweries, some food and music together it makes for a fantastic event.”

Taking place from 4pm - 9pm, the event will also include opportunities to meet the brewer, live music, giant games and markets.

Entry is $20 per adult which includes a complimentary beer glass.
