The Victory Hotel at Sellicks Hill has been voted the Best Pub in SA.

The iconic hotel, which was established in 1858, received the most public votes in a survey run by Messenger Press.

The pub took to Facebook on 2 July to share its excitement at the win.

“Lovely news that Victory Hotel has been voted Best Pub in SA,” the post said.

“Thanks to all our customers, it's so good to be able to see you face to face again.”

Victory Hotel venue manager Matt Radbone told the Messenger that after a tough few months of COVID restrictions, the pub was thrilled to win.

"When we shut the doors back in March, we didn't know when we were going to be able to open again."

With restrictions being lifted on 5 June, Matt says, “it was really nice to be able to open the doors and get people back in and feel a bit of a hum around the place again".

He suggests the award win could be down to the consistency of the food, the pub's family friendly feel and owner Doug Govan's specially curated wine list.

The Victory Hotel has now reopened for lunch and dinner seven days a week. There are restrictions on the numbers of guests in place so bookings are encouraged. Take away meals are also still available.

The other Fleurieu Peninsula pub to rate a mention in the awards was the Willunga Hotel, which came 3rd in the 'South' category, after the Victory Hotel and Seacliff Beach Hotel.
