Heritage awards and history month in Strath

Media personality Ron Kandelaars will be the special guest at the annual Alexandrina Council Heritage Awards 0n Thursday 26 May.


Hosted by the Alexandrina Council Heritage Advisory Committee, the 2022 Heritage Awards recognise excellence in Heritage Tourism, Conservation or Restoration, Adaptive Reuse, Heritage Gardens and Fencing and Historical Research.


It aims to ensure that industry, government and community recognise and commend finalists and winners that demonstrate innovation and best practice in celebrating the heritage of the Alexandrina Council Region. 


As well as showcasing the very best of heritage practices, the awards educate the wider community about the importance of conserving and activating local heritage.


Guest speaker Ron Kandelaars will engage with the audience on the topic of Heritage as News. 


This free event will be held at the Strathalbyn Show Hall from 6pm. Register to attend via Eventbrite.


Other free local History Month events include:


  • Guided tours of the Glenbarr homestead on Wednesday 18, Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May, 10.30am to 3.30pm.


  • Commemorating 100 Years of Farm Mechanisation at Milang on Sunday 29 May from 10am to 4pm at the Milang & District Historical Society clubrooms at the Milang Oval.


  • Rural Remnants exhibition from 17-30 May, 11am to 4.30pm at the Helen Stacey Gallery, Strathalbyn.
