'High Risk' at Tailem Bend but no exposure sites at McLaren Vale

A petrol station in Tailem Bend has been declared a “high risk” COVID-19 exposure site but Premier Steven Marshall says that there is no evidence that the two New South Wales removalists, who tested positive to the virus after returning home, attended anywhere in McLaren Vale other than the home of their client.

Speaking at a press conference this morning Premier Marshall said, “We do not believe there are any exposure sites in McLaren Vale.”

It has been confirmed however that the removalists and their other colleague did stop at the Tailem Bend Shell Service Station on Friday 9 July for about 30 minutes.

SA Health have declared the site an exposure site from 5.20pm to 7pm.

The station is now considered a “high-risk site” and one employee working at the time is now showing COVID-19 symptoms and is being urgently tested.

Mr Marshall said that anyone else at the service station during the exposure time needs to immediately go into quarantine and make themselves known to SA Health.

State Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Emily Kirkpatrick says that close contacts and families of those who were at the service station during the exposure time should also enter quarantine, contact SA Health and undergo testing.

The third removalist has not tested positive to COVID-19.

Dr Kirkpatrick said SA Health were working closely with NSW and Victorian health authorities to track the route the men took through the three states and any stops and potential exposure sites.

She said the removalists travelled to McLaren Vale on Friday 9 July and spent about five hours unloading their truck.

On their return to NSW they stopped at the Tailem Bend Service Station with two of them spending about 30 minutes inside the facilities.

Premier Marshall said the removalist who initially tested positive had been informed by that time that he was a close contact of someone else who had tested positive to COVID-19.

Premier Marshall says the man says he did not enter the service station at Tailem Bend but that the other two did, including the second person of the group to return a positive test.

SA Health will be checking CCTV records to confirm the movements of the removalists and to see if any additional stops had been made.

Dr Kirkpatrick says that 18 other people checked into the site during the exposure time with a QR code and urged others who may have attended but not checked in to make contact with SA Health.

If you believe you or anyone else may have been exposed via the Tailem Bend Shell Service Station or at any other site please contact SA Health as soon as possible on 1800 253 787.
