Honours even at Willunga after day one in Great Southern Cricket

Bowlers dominated day one of the clash between Willunga and Goolwa, with 14 wickets falling during round four action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) at Willunga Oval yesterday. The home side won the toss and batted first with Lewis Moss (28) the only batsman to pass 20 as the Demons were bowled out for just 86. Josh Jones (3/9), Chris Bailey (3/19) and Andy Evans (2/20) did the damage with the ball for the Magpies. Goolwa had 20 overs left in the day and Willunga hit back hard through Brayden Pansini (2/10) and Fletcher Harding (2/12) as the home side reduced Goolwa to 4/18. Rory Hanson (7 not out) and Andy Evans (3 not out) survived the last 10 overs as the Magpies finished on 4/30 at stumps.

Encounter Bay are in a commanding position at stumps on day one of their clash at Yankalilla as they reached a total of 290 before being bowled out on the last ball of the day. This total seemed a long way off as the Bays were 5/111 in the 32nd over when Zane Garrett joined Sam Hoffmann at the crease. This pair put the Tigers bowlers to the sword with a 152-run stand for the sixth wicket before Hoffmann departed for 135 from 135 balls. Hoffmann’s innings included seven fours and a whopping eight sixes! Garrett went on to make 61 (109). Doug Jones was the best of the Yankalilla bowlers with 2/32 (12).

Port Elliot are well on track for an outright win after a dominant first day in their clash with Victor Harbor at Port Elliot. The home side batted first and declared at 9/240 with 26 overs left in the day. Liam Harris (51), Tyson Levy (45) and Levi Stringer (42) led the way with the bat for the Bloods. Josh Boyko (4/50) and Sean Medlen (3/66) were the leading wicket takers for the Vipers. The reply from Victor Harbor was nothing short of a disaster as they slumped to 9/24 at stumps. All five Port Elliot bowlers took wickets with Harry Nott (2/2), Ben Martin (2/5), Simon Donaldson (2/6) and Levi Stringer (2/9) the leading wicket takers.

McLaren Districts fought back well on day one of their clash at Old Noarlunga, as they reached 0/9 at stumps after bowling reigning premiers Noarlunga out for 175. The Shoes were in the box seat as they reached 3/143 in the 46th over, before they lost 7/32 to be bowled out in the 63rd over. Connor Lock (52), Sean Williams (38) and Mason Parry (27) were the leading run scorers for Noarlunga, while Stephen Nairn (4/48), George Beard (3/23) and Roy Graham (2/40) led the way with the ball for the Crushers.

Mt Compass have the bye.
