Renovation of the Hopgood Theatre is almost complete and City of Onkaparinga has announced the official reopening date will be Friday 24 October.

The almost 500-seat Noarlunga venue is the premier performing arts space for the southern suburbs and the Fleurieu.

Its future was in doubt following withdrawal of state government funding in 2019, but a community campaign saw City of Onkaparinga take it over with a 25-year lease in 2022.

The $6million renovation started in 2024 in response to local demand for a more modern, technologically advanced venue to attract a wider range of performances.

It was funded by a state government grant and included replacement of the roof and refurbishment of the interior, with new seating, upgraded toilets, and fresh carpets, paintwork and signage.

Accessibility has been improved, with10 new wheelchair and companion seating spaces, as well as lighting and audio.

Country Arts SA has managed the venue since 2008 and a new management agreement with City of Onkaparinga will see this continue for the next three years, with the option of a further three years.

There will be a public open day on Saturday 25 October, after the official reopening.
