A special general meeting of the McLaren Vale & Districts War memorial Hospital members has been called for Friday 5 May at 2pm at the Lutheran Hall in McLaren Vale.

The hospital board wrote to members on 4 April to advise of the meeting and outline its proposal to close the hospital on 30 June and transfer its assets to the James Brown Memorial Trust.

This would see the hospital converted to an aged care facility operated by Kalyra.

The letter also outlines all the options considered by the board and the reasons for its final decision.

Opponents of the proposal have urged people in the local community to take out membership and support retention of the hospital.

The board has indicated its intention to resign should its proposal be voted down at the special general meeting.
