Housing development to disturb traditional sites

A residential development planned for Noarlunga Downs is likely to disturb a traditional indigenous burial site.

The recent State Budget allocated funds to develop the vacant land, adjacent to the South Adelaide Football Club.

For the development to go ahead it will need authorisation to disturb the ground, which could potentially impact Aboriginal sites, objects and ancestral remains.

A consultation process is underway to enable traditional owners and Aboriginal people with an interest in the southern Adelaide region to have a say on the Renewal SA project.

This will include an Aboriginal Community consultation meeting at 10am on Thursday 20 June at the South Adelaide Football Club.

The consultation period closes on Friday 5 July. More information can be viewed on the Your Say website.

The Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Kyam Maher, has identified a conflict of interest in determining the authorisation and will delegate his power to decide this application to Deputy Premier Susan Close.

Construction of the residential development is expected to begin in early 2026, with the first residents due to move in early in 2027.
