Humphries collection on show in Strath

A collection of landscapes and portrait paintings from the late entertainer Barry Humphries opened at the Stationmaster’s Art Gallery in Strathalbyn on the weekend.

The paintings are said to show a different side of the renowned and sometimes controversial comedian, featuring the fun days out painting with his great friend, artist David Dridan.

David Dridan says that Barry was one of his longest term and most genuine friends.

“This collection of artwork and supporting paraphernalia represents 67 years of friendship, family gatherings and some very amusing moments.

“Barry’s pleasure in people, conversation, playing with words, his love of art and performing led to many memorable moments, some fabulous painting trips with other SA artists and the creation of works depicting some of our state's noteworthy locations.”

There are a number of works depicting family friends and family members, dating back to devilish drinking days at Dridan’s Winery at Clarendon.

The encompass more than 50 years of conversations, reminiscence and friendship.

The Dridan family has taken great joy in providing this collection of works to remember the varied extent of creativeness that was Barry Humphries.

The show opened on Saturday 1 March and will be available to view until 23 April at the Stationmaster’s Art Gallery Strathalbyn, next to the Info centre, open 7 days 10am to 4pm.
