These September sessions are part of Libraries SA’s Being Digital Program, offered across South Australia.
Upcoming sessions at Goolwa and Strathalbyn Libraries include:
Alexandrina Chief Executive Officer Nigel Morris says that over the past year the libraries team has hosted small group sessions to help residents with a range of technology, including Windows 10 and 11, how to stream entertainment and use Smart Home devices.
“With a commitment to encourage everyone to elevate their own understanding and learning, our trusted library staff provide support and information regarding a range of topics to assist our community to do more online,” he says.
“Bridging the digital divide comes in many forms, depending on the need, and the library service focus on the three main elements of skills and knowledge, internet connection and necessary devices.
“Being Digital small group sessions encourage active participation and follow a basic lesson plan where the staff provide information and lead discussion in easy to understand, everyday language.
“Held at both Goolwa and Strathalbyn Libraries, bookings can be made with library staff, over the phone on 8555 7000 or via online booking. www.alexandrina.sa.gov.au/libraryevents
“For topics not covered in the Libraries SA program, we encourage customers to suggest them to library staff for future inclusion.”
Alexandrina Council has libraries at Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Port Elliot and Milang, which offer free PC use and Wi-Fi.
Thanks to some recent grant funding, iPads and Android tablets are now available for loan to local library members aged 50 and over for up to two weeks.
A learning path is then developed depending on the needs of the individual, providing up to 10 short lessons that can be completed at the learners’ own pace.
