Finniss MP David Basham has issued a memorial statement following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday 8 September.
“Queen Elizabeth II served the Commonwealth for 70 years. She has lived through, witnessed and adapted to many changes and challenges in that time. Her Majesty,
“Queen Elizabeth II had a deep affection for Australia and its people, visiting on many occasions to perform official functions, including opening new Parliament House in 1988.
“Her Majesty gave her entire life to duty, serving with poise, character and wisdom.
“The Electorate office of Finniss sends its deepest condolences to the Royal Family and acknowledges the loss of a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
“We remember a life of service well lived and fly the flag at half-mast for 10 days in respect and acknowledgement.”
There are several options for personally paying respects and sending a message to the Royal Family.
· Visit Government House in person on North Terrace (7am-9pm) from 9 to 19 September.
· Visit the Finniss Electorate Office at 71 Victoria Street Victor Harbor 9am -5pm Monday to Friday (from Monday 12 until Wednesday 19 September).
· Create and submit an online message.
There are also condolence books available at the offices of Federal MPs.
The South Australian government says that as a sign of respect and to acknowledge the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, it will support a number of observances, including flag protocols, condolence books and a state church service.
A state proclamation ceremony acknowledging the accession of His Majesty The King will be held on the steps of Parliament House at 2pm on Sunday 11 September.
The public is invited and, to make the event as accessible as possible, all public transport will be free on Sunday.
