Alexandrina Council has announced a short film competition open to professional and amateur filmmakers on the theme of A River Near You.

Films must run for three minutes or less and showcase river life in Alexandrina, from a recreational, environmental or historical context.

Filmmakers have until 5pm Friday, 18 October, 2019, to submit entries, with prizes available in the categories of Youth, Open and People’s Choice.

Organisers welcome films in any genre - documentary, comedy, action, drama, adventure, sci-fi – the possibilities are endless.

With many rivers, creeks and watercourses in all corners of the Alexandrina region, filmmakers are free to use their creativity in portraying ‘a river near you’.

Films submitted should share a story that highlights the beauty of Alexandrina’s watercourses in a way that promotes the region as the place to live, work and play.

For young people interested in learning about filmmaking, Alexandrina Libraries and Kids Camera Action! will hold a full-day school holiday workshop. Suitable for ages 8 – 18, it will be held on Tuesday, 8 October, at the Strathalbyn Library and Community Centre and costs $20 per person.

Films will be screened at an awards ceremony at Centenary Hall in Goolwa on 22 November from 6.30pm, with free tickets available at www.visitalexandrina.com or through the Goolwa Visitor Information Centre on 1300 466 592.
