Ironbank Cherry Gardens won their second game of the season after defeating Morphett Vale by 88 points during round eight action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Cherry Gardens yesterday. The Thunderers set up the win after a dominant first half saw them lead by 62 points at the long break. A further 12 goals to eight in the second half saw the home side run out winners 23.20 (158) to 10.10 (70). The Thunderers had 12 different goalkickers with Jak Goudman-Glasson slotting six majors, while Jordan Dinning kicked three goals for the Emus. Best players for Ironbank Cherry Gardens included Jacob Matheson, Goudman-Glasson, Jake Pokoina, Ben Marsh, Alec Bryars and Isaac Hoepfl. Morphett Vale’s best were Dinning, Connor Mulloy, Vincent Tassone, Connor Panozzo, Max Sampson and Connor Lock.
Reynella won their sixth game of 2025 following their 34-point victory over Cove at Hallett Cove yesterday. The game was tied up at quarter time, before Reynella kicked seven goals to three in the second quarter to lead by 24 points at halftime. Eventually the Wine Flies went on to win 16.18 (114) to 12.8 (80). Jake Agnew was best on ground for Reynella with seven goals and he was well supported by Talon Copley, Tyler Davies, Lachlan McGuinness, Jack Ball and Matthew Stanford. Best for the Cobras included Rourke Turner, Jack Plenty, Jayden Hall (4 goals), James Farrugia and Brody Pearce.
Flagstaff Hill won their fourth game in a row following their convincing 104-point win against Noarlunga. The Falcons won every quarter on their way to a 20.10 (130) to 3.8 (26) victory. ‘Flaggies’ had 11 different goalkickers with Nathan Beenham kicking five and Blake Aldridge four majors. Vic Robertson kicked two goals for the Shoes. Brad Kirk, Aiden Grayson, Benjamin Rossi, Beenham, Ben Jeffries and Michael Shearer were named best players for the Falcons, while the Shoes were best served by Sam Goldfinch, Nick Robertson, Jake Anderson, Callum Gaspari and Sam Carlyle.
Port Noarlunga remained undefeated following their convincing 126-point victory over Christies Beach at Bice Oval. In a high-scoring first half, the Cockle Divers led by a handy 27 points at the main break. ‘Porties’ exploded after halftime, kicking 15 unanswered goals, to win 26.17 (173) to 7.5 (47). Port Noarlunga had 11 different goalkickers with Gary Karpany kicking seven majors. Harrison Butcher kicked three goals for Christies Beach. Best players for Port Noarlunga included Brodie Smith, Karpany, Nathaniel Paredes, Daniel Flavel, Ryan Kelly and Oliver Goss. The Saints’ best were Butcher, Joshua Semmens, Liam Chibnall, Nathan Sable, Rhys Mundy and Aidan Coakley.
Happy Valley won their seventh game on the trot after a huge 190-point win against Aldinga at Happy Valley yesterday. It was a tight first term as the Vikings led by just four points at the first break. From that moment on however, it was all Happy Valley as they kicked 28 goals to zero to win 31.25 (211) to 3.3 (21). Happy Valley had an amazing 14 goalkickers with Nick Kraemer (7), Liam O’Connor (5), Tom Barrett (3), Max Gill (3) and Cooper Rogers (3) leading the way. The Vikings best players were Dylan Brown, Gill, Kraemer, O’Connor, Darnell Tucker and Rogers. Best for Aldinga included Blake Florance, Angus Stangewitz, Izaih Wortley, Zach Young and Brayden Hooper.
