Ironbank Cherry Gardens notch maiden win in 2025

Ironbank Cherry Gardens won their first game of the season after defeating Aldinga by five points in a low-scoring tussle during round 6 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Aldinga this afternoon. The home side led by 11 points at halftime, before Ironbank Cherry Gardens kicked three goals to one in the second half to win 5.14 (44) to 5.9 (39). The Thunderers best players were Kyle Schefe, Jake Pokoina, Levi Grigg, Dylan Kahl, James Cross and Alec Bryars, while the Sharks were best served by Angus Stangewitz, Bailey Pilmore (2 goals), Hugo Hoeck, Blake Florance and Lachlan Gill.


Port Noarlunga remained undefeated after a comprehensive 140-point victory at Morphett Vale. The Cockle Divers led by 32 points at quarter time, 63 points at halftime and 64 points at the last change, before kicking 12.4 to 0.0 in the final term to win 27.17 (179) to 6.3 (39). ‘Porties’ had 11 different goalkickers with Gary Karpany kicking eight majors and Darren Walters kicked five. Emus skipper Connor Lock kicked two goals. Best players for Port Noarlunga included Todd Mckay, Karpany, Tom Dix, Kyan Smith, Darcy Warman and Nathaniel Paredes. Best for Morphett Vale were Toby Irlam, Braden Ritter, Max Sampson, Lock, Orlando Brinsley and Vincent Tassone.


Happy Valley moved up to third spot on the ladder with a comfortable 115-point win over Cove. The Vikings had 11 goalkickers on their way to a 23.14 (152) to 5.7 (37) victory. Harry Vick and Cooper Rogers kicked four goals each for Happy Valley, while Lincoln Holder and Dylan Seirch kicked two goals for the Cobras. Best players for the Vikings included Matthew Lillis, Nicholas Kraemer, Lachlan Hamilton, Jayden Little, Nicholas Frisby-Smith and Rogers. Cove’s best players were Jack Plenty, Seirch, Rourke Turner, Aaron Reich and Michael Galley.


Reynella consolidated their spot in the top-three with a 51-point win at home against Noarlunga. The Wine Flies led by 13 points at halftime, before kicking eight goals to three in the second half to win 14.13 (97) to 7.4 (46). Bailey Marshman was the best forward on the ground with five goals for the Wine Flies (35 for the season), while Brad Potter slotted three. Luke Ross also kicked three goals for the Shoes. Tyler Davies, Liam Reid, Daniel Whitaker, Marshman, Jack Stiles and Talon Copley were named best for Reynella, while for the Shoes, Callum Gaspari, Samuel Goldfinch, Jamison Snelling, Ross, Jake Anderson and Sam Eisenhut were their best players. 


After trailing by two points at halftime, Flagstaff Hill came back to defeat Christies Beach by 31 points at Bice Oval today. The Falcons kicked five unanswered goals in the second half to win 10.12 (72) to 6.5 (41). Nathan Beenham kicked four goals for Flagstaff Hill, while Ethan Taylor kicked two goals for the Saints. ‘Flaggies’ best players included Reece Milsom, Kobe Cavouras, Joshua Rosman, D’Arcy Mitchell, Benjamin Rossi and Aiden Grayson. Best for Christies Beach included Joshua Semmens, Austin Hogg, Rhys Mundy, Harrison Butcher, Brock Wall-Murphy and Jonty Murphy.
