Kangaroo Island council has created a new community grant program, which is now open for applications.

The program has been designed to support community groups and individuals with initiatives that are determined to benefit the Island and community.

The grants will support local initiatives that progress community outcomes and contribute to sport and recreation, local culture, demonstrate community benefit, and assist in meeting the council's strategic goals and objectives.

They will offer a maximum financial contribution of $4,000 per application, which must be spent within the current financial year or within twelve months of acceptance of the grant.

Applications close on Thursday 30 November.
