It’s a go for FOGO in Strath

Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority will host a Food Organics Garden Organics awareness event at Strathalbyn Skate Park on Saturday 25 May.

There will be free kitchen caddies and compostable bags available, plus half-price green FOGO bins for sale to those who need a new one.

FRWA says on average, Strathalbyn blue landfill bins still contain 30 per cent food scraps, which end up in landfill.

Food scraps in the green FOGO bins go to Peats Soil & Garden Supplies at Brinkley to create compost and soil.

The first 60 people to purchase a FOGO bin – at the great price of $39 – will receive a free bag of compost for the garden.

All Fleurieu Peninsula residents are welcome to the FOGO event, which will run from 9am to 1pm.

FOGO bins are collected fortnightly in zoned townships.

Using them for food scraps, as well as green garden waste leaves more room in the blue general waste bin, which are also collected fortnightly.

For more information about FOGO and waste collection go to the FRWA website and for guidance about which bin to use for what waste, visit the Which Bin website.
