Many top spots on the Fleurieu have made the Nature Play SA list of recommendations for the best places for outdoor play.

The not-for-profit organisation is known for its family events, nature-based resources, education programs in schools and early years, and advocacy for a childhood where nature is not forgotten.

It has compiled lists of the state’s best camping spots, playgrounds, forests, waterfalls and national parks to encourage families outside this winter.

Using the hashtag #itsbetteroutside, Nature Play SA details walking trails, amenities and flora and fauna to be spotted on a day out.

Three local waterfalls were listed as well worth a visit: Ingalalla Falls, south of Normanville; Hindmarsh Falls, outside Victor Harbor; and Deep Creek Waterfall, near Second Valley.

Deep Creek Conservation Park also topped the list of National Parks camping spots, for its, “abundant wildlife, expansive coastal views, big night skies, and diversity of bushwalking trails teeming with winter wildflowers, orchids, and birdlife’. 

It was joined by Onkaparinga River National Park, near Port Noarlunga, which also features a spectacular Recreation Reserve.

Goolwa’s Bristow-Smith Reserve and George T Fisher Nature Playground, in Victor Harbor, were listed as accessible places to play and make connections with local history and the natural environment.  

Kuitpo Forest, between Meadows and McLaren Vale, was described as a winter wonderland for biking, walking, horse riding and camping.

The top rated pine forest also topped the creeks list, with its Chookarloo campsite called, “a place where childhood memories are made”.
