Jetty dry zone extension confirmed

The Liquor Licensing Commissioner has approved a proposed dry area extension for Port Noarlunga.

The City of Onkaparinga will install new signage to advise users of the area of the change, over the next few weeks.

The extended dry are will include the jetty and the area of beach underneath it.

The council says there was strong community support for the change, with 54 of 77 people who provided feedback in favour.

It was generally felt the change would help to reduce poor behaviour, increase public safety, and ensure the beach remains family friendly.

At its August meeting the council endorsed the proposed extension and resolved to apply to the Liquor Licensing Commissioner, through the Office of Consumer and Business Services to have it made a permanent dry area.

The changes was supported by South Australia Police, who directly tackle ongoing alcohol related issues in this area.
