Jockey suffers serious fall at Strathalbyn

The Strathalbyn Cup race meeting has been postponed after a jockey was injured in a fall yesterday, Sunday 28 January.

Jockey Kelsey Hannan was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with spinal injuries after falling from her horse after the finish of Race 1.

The remainder of the racing was then cancelled.

In a statement, Racing SA has thanked the on track medical teams who ensured the 21-year-old New Zealander received immediate care and the State Rescue Helicopter Service for their swift response.

“Kelsey was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where she is receiving treatment for a non-life threatening vertebrae injury.

“We share everyone’s concern for Kelsey’s condition and will provide a further update as soon as possible.”

The 101st running of the Strathalbyn Cup has been rescheduled for Friday 2 December.

Strathalbyn Racing Club has announced free entry to the event, with chair Wayne Kluske thanking everyone involved and sending thoughts and well wishes to Kelsey, her family and friends.

“I hope that we can share positive news in her road to recovery and rehab in the coming days.”
