Soccer fans across the Fleurieu will rejoice in a festival of junior football this spring.
Strathalbyn will host a junior football carnival in September after securing a $10,000 federal grant from the Regional Sport Events Fund.
The Strathalbyn Football Club gained the grant with support from Alexandrina Council.
The funding program seeks to support regional councils to host sporting events for community involvement.
Alexandrina Mayor Keith Parkes says the carnival is set to boost participation in sport across the Fleurieu as well as the local economy.
Held over consecutive Saturdays, the two-day carnival will be held on the Strathalbyn Recreation Grounds at Fitzpatrick Road, Strathalbyn, home of the Strathalbyn Strikers Football Club.
The event will provide opportunity for players spanning from Under 8 through to Under 17 years to be involved and compete against teams from beyond their usual leagues, with clubs from across Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula participating.
“We are pleased to support this event and thankful for the Federal Government funding for this Junior Football Carnival, which will provide opportunity for participants to expand their social networks, be inspired by specialist coaching, and encourage our youth to lead an active and healthy lifestyle,” Mayor Parkes says.
