Kangarilla have tasted victory over Kersbrook for the first time in 12 years on a day of upsets in the Hills Football League (HFL) Country Division. In a high scoring match at Kersbrook, Kangarilla held on to win by just four points, 15.10 (100) to 13.18 (96). Kangarilla started fast to hold a very handy 31-point lead at the first change. Kersbrook hit back hard in the second term to cut the margin to just four points at the long break. It was a see-sawing third term which saw both teams kick four goals each as Kangies turned for home with a slender two-point margin. Kersbrook would rue their kicking for goal in the last quarter as they added 3.6 to Kangies 4.2 as the visitors won by just four points in one of the games of the season. Thomas Hall kicked five goals for Kangarilla (17 for the season) and Jamie Grosser slotted three. Jacob Pitman and Brad Inglis each kicked three goals for the Brookers.

Ironbank-Cherry Gardens continued on their merry way in 2020 with a convincing 69-point home win over Bridgewater-Callington. The Thunderers are undefeated after five rounds and are firm premiership favourites. Ironbank-Cherry Gardens were never threatened as they turned a 41-point halftime lead into a 19.20 (134) to 9.11 (65) victory. The Jeremy Johcock/Josh Vandermeer show continued with Johncock kicking seven goals in a best on ground performance while Vandermeer kicked six majors. Ben O’Donnell kicked four goals for the Raiders.

Birdwood pulled off a huge upset 31-point win over reigning premier Gumeracha at Birdwood Oval on Saturday. The Roosters set up the win with a dominant first quarter which saw them kick five goals to zero and lead by 29 points at the first change. Gumeracha responded well in the second quarter to close the margin to just seven points at halftime and it was game on. Birdwood played an excellent second half kicking seven goals to four to take the victory 13.11 (89) to 8.10 (58). Christian Elliott starred for Birdwood with five goals in a best on ground performance. Steven Pollock kicked three goals for the Magpies while Ben Hanna was named best for Gumeracha.

Meadows moved up to fourth spot on the ladder with their second win of the season after a convincing, albeit inaccurate, 15.22 (112) to 1.1 (7) victory at home against bottom side Torrens Valley. Meadows shared the goals around with nine different goal kickers including Max Buckley with four in a best on ground performance. Daniel Rainsford kicked the Lions only goal for the match in the first quarter while Robbie Young was named their best player.

Macclesfield had the bye.
