Kangaroo Island fires spark more emergency warnings

Emergency warnings have again been issued for bushfires burning under severe weather conditions on Kangaroo Island.

The first is near Vivonne Bay and the second is in the Cygnet River Catchment area, adjoining and east of the Parndana Conservation Park near Parndana.

These fires may pose a threat to lives directly in their paths.

People in both areas have been advised to act now and leave, if the path is clear to a safer place, as it will soon be too dangerous to drive.

The Cygnet River fire is an uncontrolled stubble fire burning in a southerly and easterly direction towards Branch Creek Road, Camelback Road, Playford Highway (east of Parndana Township) Bomb Alley Road, Ropers Road, Wedgewood Road, Timber Creek Road, Rowland Highway and Margaries Road.

The fire near Vivonne Bay Township is a scrub fire  burning in a westerly direction towards Vivonne Bay township, Harriet Road, South Coast Road, Flinders Road, View Road, Bayview Road and Knofel Drive.

Conditions are continually changing. For updates listen to your local ABC radio station on a battery powered radio, visit the CFS website or phone the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1800 362 361.
