Kangaroos hop to their second win in the Great Southern Women's competition

Victor Harbor won their second game of the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) season with a comfortable 49-point win against Encounter Bay at Willunga on Sunday. After a scoreless opening term, Victor kicked three goals in the second quarter to lead by 21 points at halftime. The Bays kicked their first goal of the game in the third term through Keeley Round but Victor increased their lead to 30 points at the last change before winning 8.7 (55) to 1.0 (6). Tyla Millard starred with four goals for the Kangaroos and was named in the best players along with Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner, Chloe Colman, Deb Beaton and best on ground, Jaimee Millard. Best for Encounter Bay was Amber Grahame, Chelsea Walker, Teagan Stewart, Zoe Lush and Kayla Jade Lang. 


Mount Compass continued their undefeated start to the season with a tough 15-point win over a gallant Strathalbyn outfit at Mount Compass. It was a low scoring contest with ‘Compass’ winning 3.2 (20) to Strathalbyn 0.5 (5). Taylar McGrath, Kelly Haverty and Kiahni Russell were the goalkickers for the Bulldogs. The consistent Demi Sharp was best for Mount Compass. Sharp has been named in the best players in seven of the eight games so far this season. She was supported by Amy Taylor, Linda Shute, Amelia Sartor and Elke Jarvis. The Roosters battled hard with their best players being Courtney Mesecke, Indigo Miller, Tessa Grant, Emily Cozamanis and Morgan Tucker.


McLaren consolidated third position on the GSFLW ladder with a 39-point win against Yankalilla at Mount Compass. Yankalilla took a surprise three point lead at quarter time but the Eagles hit back in the second term to lead by 11 points at halftime. A further five goals to one in the second half saw the Eagles triumph 9.7 (61) to 3.4 (22). Sheena Peters kicked four goals for McLaren while teammate Caitlin Ross kicked three majors. Natasha Hunt, Kimberly Robinson and Nari Wright kicked Yankalilla’s goals. Layla Rogers, Peters, Ross, Emily Rowe and Ruby Flanagan-Sjoberg were best for the winners while for the Tigers, Jemma Ellis, Wright, Amelia Bilney, Emily Sowter and Chloe Howlett were their best.


Willunga kept the pressure on top side Mount Compass with their fifth win on the trot after accounting for a gutsy Goolwa/Port Elliot to the tune of 35 points in the late game at Willunga on Sunday. Willunga led by seven points at quarter time, 28 points at halftime and 36 points at the last change before winning 6.6 (42) to 1.1 (7). Jessica Harris, Cleo Guilfoyle and Shae Archbold all kicked two goals each for the Demons. Tracey O’Donnell was the Magpies’ sole goalkicker. Guilfoyle, Bella Rigby, Courtney Gutschmidt, Ella Radbone, Katrice Turner and Jessica Williams were named in the best players for Willunga. Rachel Searle, Asha Bell, O’Donnell, Tayla Hoad and Megan Hoad were best for the Magpies.
