SA Health says birthing and theatre services at Kangaroo Island Health Service remain suspended due to ongoing staff shortages compounded by COVID and workforce leave.
A temporary suspension was put in place on Wednesday 22 June but was due to end on last Friday (7 July).
SA Health say they want to reassure the community that their utmost priority is the health and safety of patients, both mother and baby.
They say they are working closely with six local women to ensure they have access to alternative birthing arrangements as required.

Antenatal and post-natal midwifery services continue to be available to the Kangaroo Island community throughout this period.
SA Health are working to resolve the situation and resume birthing services as soon as possible and say they are doing everything they can to fill the staffing levels needed for a complete roster.
In the event a woman in labour presents to Kangaroo Island Health Service, a transfer will be arranged to the most appropriate birthing site in a safe manner.
