In the lead up to Christmas, Kangaroo Island council made some improvements to the amenity of its campgrounds in time for the busy summer season.

This includes adding a new toilet at Emu Bay Campground and numbering all sites across the seven campgrounds.

They are Stokes Bay, Vivonne Bay, Emu Bay, Western River, Duck Lagoon, American River and Brown Beach. Previously only Emu Bay and Vivonne Bay had numbered sites.

These upgrades are consistent with other public campgrounds on the island and aim to enhance the experience for both locals and visitors, especially during the busier holiday period.

The council does not take bookings for the sites and availability is on a first come, first serve basis.

Several campgrounds use PARKEON Pay stations, which enable credit card payments. Full details of current camping fees can be found on the council website.

As a service to motorhome and campervan travellers, and to provide protection for the environment, Kangaroo Island council has installed four Dump Ezy effluent dump points.

These facilities are for the disposal of toilet and greywater from the many motorhomes and campervans that visit the island.

They are located at American River, Brownlow, Parndana and Penneshaw. Western KI Caravan Park also provides a similar facility for its campers.
