Kangaroo Island Council has announced its 2025 Australia Day Awards, to be celebrated on Sunday 26 January in Kingscote.

Joint Citizens of the Year are Kerry Brinkley and Dianne Hoffman, both of Kingscote, recognised for their outstanding contributions to Kangaroo Island.

Event of the Year is the Western Districts Memorial Community and Sports Centre Opening and Project of the Year is The Drive Alive Road Safety Campaign.

The presentations will be made at the Australia Day event at Hope Cottage, the Kingscote Branch of the National Trust of South Australia, starting at 10am.

The celebrations  will feature a live performance by the Kingscote Community Band and a special guest will lead the national anthem.

Mayor Michael Pengilly will then present the council's annual Community Grants, recognising and supporting local initiatives that strengthen the region.

A Citizenship Ceremony will also take place, where three new Australian citizens will be warmly welcomed into the community.

Morning tea will follow the ceremony, generously provided by the Kingscote National Trust.
