Kangaroo Island council has invited expressions of interest for the remaining $5000 in its 2024 community grants scheme.

The money is available to community groups or individuals seeking funding for projects that bring social, environmental and cultural benefit to Kangaroo Island.

Four community groups were awarded a total of $15,000 of funding from the $20,000 available.

They were Parndana Show Society, Parndana Sports Club, Western Kangaroo Island Lions Club of Parndana and Kangaroo Island Motor Club.

At its February meeting the council decided to release the unsubscribed funding of $5000.

Expressions of interest will close at 5pm on Thursday 7 March.

Mayor Michael Pengilly says the council's focus is on working in collaboration with the community to shape a sustainable future for current and future generations.

"It is important for Council to engage and support the community, and the Community Grants scheme is just one way we can do this," he says.

"It's a small program designed to kick start community projects."
