The local government Chief Executive Officer roundabout continues, with Kangaroo Island the latest seeking a new CEO.
Mayor Michael Pengilly has announced the resignation of CEO Greg Georgopoulos, who he says has led the organisation through a remarkable period of change across the Island.
“On behalf of the Elected Members and staff I would like to personally thank Greg for his professionalism, his dedication and his hard work and we wish him and his family all the very best for the future,” the Mayor says.
“Greg has decided to leave to pursue new opportunities and I can only respect that decision.”
Mr Georgopoulos says that he is deeply grateful for the support of the Mayor, Elected Members and community.
“It has been an incredible privilege and honour to be able to lead a great organisation and to serve the council and the community of Kangaroo Island for the five years,” he says.
“Together, we have transformed challenges into opportunities, guided the council through disaster, rapid change and growth, and established a strong community presence.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working in the role and with the many great people that I have worked with externally, internally and on council. I have made many friends and am incredibly grateful for the loyalty, support and wise counsel of my colleagues.
Mr Georgopoulos’ last day will be Wednesday 12 July, before taking up the position of CEO at the Adelaide Hills Council.
Mayor Pengilly says the council, assisted by Mr Georgopoulos, will spend the coming months working through the recruitment process for a replacement CEO.
Mr Georgopoulos says he had intended to see the newly elected council through its first six months and help the councillors form into a strong team.
“I believe this has now occurred and the council and administration are well placed to make the Island an even better place in the future.
“It’s now time to pass the baton on to a new CEO and move onto the next stage in my career.”
