The Kangaroo Island Council, Kangaroo Island Community Centre and Island Care are again partnering for the annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal.

Each year the appeal draws on the compassion and generosity of the local community, with residents invited to donate gifts for distribution to families in need.

The Mayor's Christmas Tree Appeal has helped many local families and individuals in need for more than 20 years.

“Every year this appeal is a great way to make Christmas that little bit more special and festive for members of our community that are going through hard times,” says Kangaroo Island Mayor Michael Pengilly.

“It always amazes me, the generosity of spirit across our Island, and every year, the overwhelming response to this appeal demonstrates just how much helping others means to so many,” he says.

“Even the smallest gifts can make the biggest difference, so whether it be toys, vouchers or your time, please donate what you can, and let's try and spread as much festive cheer as possible this Christmas.”

Presents can be left at the Christmas tree at the council offices in Kingscote before 5pm on Friday 22 December.

Tags can be collected from the council offices and should specify what gender/age the present would be suitable for, from babies to 18 years.

Gift ideas include toys, clothing and accessories, books, sporting goods, games, beauty products and gift vouchers.

For health and hygiene reasons, food items and pre-loved toys cannot be donated.

Presents will be delivered to Island Care and the Kangaroo Island Community Centre by Mayor Pengilly for distribution prior to Christmas.
