Kingscote win their 13th flag in KI Football

Kingscote won their 13th Kangaroo Island Football League ‘A’ grade premiership after an upset 12-point win over reigning premier Western Districts at Wisanger yesterday. It was Kingscote’s first ‘A’ grade flag since 2018. The game was tight in the first half with Western Districts holding an eight-point lead at the main break. Kingscote came to life in the ‘premiership quarter’, kicking five goals to two, to take a handy 15-point lead into the final term. The last quarter was pretty even with Kingscote holding on to win 11.13 (79) to 10.7 (67). Paul Green, Hamish Hartlett, Cain Florance, Peter Rolfe and Riley Puckridge all kicked two goals for Kingscote, while Western Districts skipper Lleyton Hedges slotted four majors for his side. Florance was best-on-ground for the Hounds and he was well supported by Rolfe, Zak Siemer, Rory Lovering and Roland Ah Chee.

In the other grades, Kingscote also defeated Western Districts with an 11.12 (78) to 7.8 (50) victory in the ‘B’ grade, while Dudley United won the Under 15 Colts by seven points against Western Districts.
