Volunteers have been working with the District Council of Yankalilla on beach revegetation at Lady Bay.
A new volunteer group has been using plants from the Yankalilla Community Nursery for revegetation at Shelly Beach/Little Gorge Beach.
Volunteer Josh Droogan’s family owns the State Heritage listed Dixon shack below the HMAS Hobart memorial lookout.
He approached Corey Jackson, the Coastal Conservation Officer for the region, about continuing the revegetation started at this site on National Tree Day a couple of years ago.
Josh has now planted over 350 plants of local native community nursery grown plants and has reused tree guards from previous plantings.
He is studying Conservation and Land Management at TAFE and will also create a management plan for this site as part of his studies.
Corey Jackson’s coastal conservation work is supported by Landscape SA and hosted at Yankalilla Council.
The revegetation project is on both public land and adjoining private land, with the farmer’s permission.
The cliffs between this site and south through to Wirrina are the fifth highest priority in the Southern Fleurieu Coastal Action Plan for conservation and improvement.
