Landscape Act gets an independent review

Former state environment minister John Hill has been appointed to conduct an independent review into the operation and effectiveness of the Landscape South Australia Act 2019.

The review, which starts on August 14, was included in the Act to provide an opportunity to help identify improvements for better management and protection of the state’s natural landscapes.

Landscape boards, environmental and primary industry groups, Aboriginal people and landowners are encouraged to participate and share their views.

YourSAy consultation will invite public feedback as part of the review, which will also examine a state government election commitment to investigate the effect the creation of Green Adelaide has had on the funding of regional landscape boards.

The Act created the state’s eight regional Landscape Boards, as well as Green Adelaide, in 2020, replacing the Natural Resource Management boards.

Landscape SA Hills and Fleurieu and Landscape SA Kangaroo Island are the two regional boards covering the Fleurieu Peninsula and KI.

The Landscape South Australia Act 2019 regulates land management, water management, pest plant and animal control.

Mr Hill, a member of parliament from 1997 to 2014, is currently University of South Australia Deputy Chancellor, ACH Group Deputy Chairman and Private Healthcare Australia Independent Chairman.

He will operate independently of the state government and report directly to the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water, Susan Close.
