Lesson in branding for women in business
South coast women in business found out that there was more to branding a business than just a logo when they attended the latest Women in Business Regional Network lunch at the Middleton Tavern.
The guest speaker, Demelza Thorpe from Powdermonkey Design, encouraged everyone to think hard about the story behind their brand, including the how and why of what the business does and who you do it for.
There were activities from Demelza’s branding ‘playbook’ to spark creativity, including choosing an animal that might best represent your business and identifying the faces of your audience.
Business branding is much more than a logo with the business being represented in a wide range of places such as online, in social media, clothing, signage, music on hold, written materials and the approach to customers.
Demelza, who is based in Mount Barker, has recently been appointed the Adelaide Hills Chapter Convenor for the network.
The lunch also served as an opportunity for the network’s Partner nbn™ Local to provide a brief presentation on their new business fibre initiative.
Rachel Leonow, SA Regional Business Lead, says Victor Harbor has been identified as one of only 240 business fibre zones across Australia, meaning businesses, even those operating from home, could get access to better performance, discounted wholesale prices as well as improved service response.
The next Victor Harbor chapter function will be a lunch on Wednesday 16 June, when network founder Carolyn Jeffrey will facilitate a discussion on helping local women in business look at where they’re going next with their businesses, and how to continue to shake off the restrictions created by COVID-19.
The Women in Business Regional Network is open to business owners, managers, staff and those dreaming of owning their own business. You don’t have to be a member to attend events, but bookings are essential via Eventbrite.
