Talented local surfer Amy Gore has been selected to represent Australia at the FISU World University Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 2-8 September. This prestigious event will provide Amy the opportunity to fulfil her dreams and compete for a world championship title.

Receiving the selection letter in May after an extensive process was a surreal moment for Amy, who feels blessed and honoured to debut in the green and gold.

Surfing has been a significant part of her life since she caught her first wave at age eight. Despite facing major medical challenges that could have made surfing impossible, her love for the sport, faith, and determination allowed her to defy the odds and continue pursuing her passion.

Amy has been competing in professional surfing events since she was 16 and is now on the brink of a new and exciting opportunity. However, surfing is a self-funded sport, and the costs associated with competing in Brazil are substantial. The total expenses, including flights, insurance, registrations, athlete village fees, and uniforms, amount to approximately $7,500.

She is reaching out to the community for support to help cover these expenses.

"As much as I wish I could come up with this on my own, I just haven’t been able to get there," she shares. "Your support would mean the absolute world to me. Not only would I be incredibly touched, but it would also help me inspire others to believe that nothing is impossible and to never stop dreaming big."
