Southern Districts spent the day in the field as round four of SACA Premier Cricket got underway at Bice Oval on Saturday. Overnight rain which had leaked under the covers caused a delay to the start of play and after winning the toss, the Stingrays sent Tea Tree Gully in to bat. The returning Lewis Hatchett (1/55) removed Darren Ironside (9) to have the visitors 1/34 before an 83-run second wicket partnership between Corey Polyak (25) and Jack Holliday put Tea Tree Gully in control before Polyak was removed by Sunam Gautam. Holliday was joined by Joe Gatting and this pair got right on top of the Southern Districts bowlers with a magnificent 188-run partnership with Holliday posting a career best innings of 170 from 232 balls (14 x 4’s, 1 x6). Gatting finishing the day on 100 not out from 136 balls (4 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s) as the visitors finished the day at 4/316 from 80 overs. Shaun Tanner (2/49) was the only multiple wicket taker on a long day for the Stingrays. The home side will need to bat well to claim victory or force a draw as the game comes to its conclusion next Saturday.
