Magpies a chance to swoop on top-two finish in Great Southern Football League Women's competition

Goolwa/Port Elliot are still in the hunt for a top-two spot after their eight-point win against Victor Harbor during round 13 action in the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition in the Great Southern Football League earlier today. Things weren’t looking good for the Magpies as ‘Victor’ took a 12-point lead at halftime, but Goolwa/Port Elliot steadied as they kicked three goals to zero in the second half to win 3.5 (23) to 2.3 (15). Hannah Crump, Laura Jones and Kerrie-Ann Moon were the goalkickers for the Magpies, while Jaimi Tabb and Lily Baxter were the goalkickers for the ‘Roos. Alana Browne, Tayla Hoad, Crump, Rachel Wood and Rachel Searle were named best players for the Magpies. For Victor Harbor, Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner, Tabb, Courtney Barry, Jasmine Bailey and Maya Overall were their best.


McLaren Eagles remained in second spot on the ladder after defeating Strathalbyn by 32 points on Friday night at McLaren Vale. The game was tight for three quarters with the Eagles leading by just one point at the last change. The Roosters were eyeing off an upset but McLaren had other ideas as they slammed on five goals to zero in the last term to win 8.2 (50) to 3.0 (18). Sheena Peters and Lauren Reynolds kicked two goals each for McLaren, while Rosie Shaw, Indi Miller and Katie Ehlers were the goalkickers for the Roosters. Best players for McLaren included Sophia Flanagan-Sjoberg, Katie Whish, Sam Pratt, Tiffany Copley and Sally Fuller. ‘Strath’ were best served by Tess Huxtable, Emma Chapman, Courtney Mesecke, Tessa Grant and Kate Sanders.


Willunga won their 10th game of the season with a comfortable 71-point win against Yankalilla this afternoon. The Demons dominated the first half to lead by 55 points at the long break. The Tigers battled hard in the second half before Willunga ran out winners 11.6 (72) to 0.1 (1). Shae Archbold starred up forward with six goals for Willunga, while Courtney Gum slotted five majors. Best for the Demons were Tessa Kohn, Patty Sommerville, Archbold, Shannen Hiern and Courtney Gutschmidt. The Tigers’ best included Jemma Ellis, Anabella Walden and Kelesha Rewiti-Edwards.


Mount Compass had the bye.
