Magpies keep pressure on for top spot in Great Southern Women's Football

Goolwa/Port Elliot consolidated second spot on the ladder with a comfortable 62-point win against Victor Harbor at Goolwa during round six action of the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Friday night. The Magpies led by 25 points at quarter time, 39 points at halftime, and 52 points at the last change, before winning 10.4 (64) to 0.2 (2). Rosie Shaw kicked five goals in a best-on-ground performance for Goolwa/Port Elliot, while Indiana Quaremba kicked three majors. Joining Shaw in the best players for the Magpies were Amber McKinlay, Tamra Sanders, Bridget Lindsay, and Rachel Wood.


McLaren Districts kept pace with the top-two with a 77-point win against Myponga-Sellicks at Strathalbyn on Friday night. The Eagles led by 25 points at quarter time, before both sides kicked two goals in the second term as the margin stayed at 25 points at the long break. McLaren Districts got their game going in the second half, kicking eight goals to none, to win 14.6 (90) to 2.1 (13). Best players for the Eagles included Indiana Vass, Charlie Shaw-McMillan, Elsie Upton, Kaya Angus, and Catherine Viney. Molly Agnew and Tara Ludlow were the goalkickers for the Mudlarks. 


Willunga maintained top position on the ladder following their 47-point win over Yankalilla/Encounter Bay. The reigning premier led at every change to win 8.14 (62) to 2.3 (15). Emily Steele and Abby Woodward kicked three goals each for the Demons, while their best players were Lauren Clifton, Jodie Hunt, Tamara Page, Kristin Remfrey, and Steele. Best players for the Stingrays included Tegan Cross, Georgia Weatherspoon, Jemma Ellis, Chloe Howlett, and Kimberley Rowe.
