Magpies on the board in Great Southern Women's Football

Goolwa/Port Elliot won their first game of the season after defeating Yankalilla/Encounter Bay by 11 points during round 2 action in the Great Southern Football League ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition at Yankalilla today. The Magpies led by seven points at halftime, before running out winners 2.8 (20) to 0.9 (9). Rachel Wood and Lily Jenke kicked the goals for Goolwa/Port Elliot, while their best players included Ellie Fry, Jessica Bailey, Jenke, Brooke Goslett, Wood and Rosie Shaw. Best for the Stingrays were Tyler Rigney Garret and Czenya Cavouras.


Willunga are undefeated and on top of the ladder after an entertaining 34-point win against Myponga-Sellicks at Myponga today. Willunga led by 52 points at the last change, before the Mudlarks kicked three unanswered goals in the last quarter, before the Demons won 10.7 (67) to 5.3 (33). Tamara Page (3), Bella Rigby (2) and Jessica Harris (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Willunga. The Demons best players included Caitlin Radbone, Jessica Kirk, Rigby, Kirstin Remfrey, Page and Harris, while the Mudlarks were best served by Grace Deacon, Imogen Harney, Nari Wright, Eden Coleman and Tayte Mathewson.


Reigning premiers McLaren Districts are also undefeated after a 25-point win against Victor Harbor. The Eagles played an excellent first half to lead by 34 points at the long break. Victor Harbor put up a good fight in the second half, kicking three goals to one, before McLaren Districts won 7.7 (49) to 3.6 (24). Cadence Bryowsky, Layla Rogers, Esther Rayner (3 goals), Carly Vanderkwast, Natalie Elton and Akira Whelan were named best for the Eagles, while Tyla Millard, Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner, Demi Morse, Zoe Bartholomaeus, Elsie Upton and Olivia Nobbs were best for Victor Harbor, and Stacie Findlow kicked two goals.
