Magpies swoop in AEHCA

Hahndorf moved up to second spot on a tight Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) ladder following their two-wicket win over Wistow during round 6 action on the hill at Wistow on Saturday. Wistow batted first with Harrison Burgess (46), Connor Burgess (32) and Tim Chynoweth (31 not out) the leading run scorers as the Echidnas posted 7/190 from their 45 overs. Hudson Judd (2/53) was the leading wicket taker for the Magpies. Hahndorf were in trouble in the run chase at 4/87 as Lachlan Huxtable joined Ben Salt at the crease in what turned out to be a critical partnership. This pair added 59 runs for the fifth wicket before Salt departed for 53 (93 balls), while Huxtable guided the Magpies home in the 45th over with 45 not out (52 balls). Cooper Kupke took 3/36 (9) for the Echidnas, and he was well supported by Connor Burgess (2/34). 


Langhorne Creek won their second game of the season after a comfortable 97-run win over Bremer Callington at Langhorne Creek on Saturday. The home side batted first with Dan Cleggett (48), Troy Blackwell (35) and Daniel Kropp (25) leading the way as the southern Tigers put up a total of 188. Adam Roberts (3/38), Alex Durbidge (2/29) and Jeff Garrett (2/34) were the multiple wicket takers for the Cobras. Bremer Callington were never in the run chase with only two batsmen, Nathan Fitzgerald (32) and Graydon Brand (26), making more than 10 as they were bundled out in the 25th over for just 91. Langhorne Creek skipper Adam Clements snared 4/11 (9) and he was well supported by Daniel Evans (3/2) and Kropp (2/9). 


Lobethal continued their undefeated start to the season with a comprehensive 138-run victory at Strathalbyn. Lobethal batted first with their innings set up by skipper Jeremy Hackett who top scored with 86 (85), while Scott Higgins made 41 (47) as the northern Tigers were bowled out in the 43rd over for 237. Nathan Wyatt (3/26), Brayden Gaiter (3/37) and Nick Williams (2/42) were the main wicket takers for the Stallions. ‘Strath’ got themselves to 2/55, before a collapse of 8/44 saw them bowled for 99 in the 26th over. Skipper Matt Harris (31) was the only Strathalbyn batsman to pass 20. Sam Martin (3/7) and Josh Martin (3/15) were the stars with the ball for Lobethal.


Woodside won their first game of the season after defeating Nairne by eight wickets at Woodside. Nairne batted first with Luke Timmins (32), Nick Melvin (25) and Chad Harrop (21) the leading run scorers as they struggled to post a total of 130 before being bowled out in the 38th over. Noah Bell was the star with the ball for the Warriors with the great figures of 6/23 from 7.2 overs. Woodside chased down the total comfortably with 29 balls to spare as James Bradley (33), Trent Young (31), Tommy Baldock (25 not out) and Bell (22 not out) got the job done.
