Magpies swoop in as only undefeated side in AEHCA Cricket

Hahndorf won their third game in a row to start the season after defeating Nairne by five wickets during round three action in the 2024/25 Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association (AEHCA) at Nairne on Saturday. Nairne batted first with Brodie Clarke (32), Chad Harrop (23) and Robert Crook (20) the only Razorbacks batsmen to reach 20 as they were bowled out for 128 in the 39th over. Dean Gore (3/9), Ryan Trafford-Walker (3/26) and Paul Allegretto (2/22) were the leading wicket takers for the Magpies. Hahndorf skipper Daniel Jenner (34) and Lachlan Huxtable (32) led the way for the Magpies as they chased down the target in the 31st over for the loss of five wickets. Left-armer Caleb Walker was the pick of the Nairne bowlers with figures of 3/28 from his nine overs.

Woodside won their first game of the season after a comfortable 95-run win against Macclesfield. The Warriors batted first with skipper Tommy Baldock and Trent Young adding 121 runs for the first wicket before Young was dismissed for 59 (48 balls). Baldock was joined by Brad Collins (25) in adding 104 runs for the second wicket as Woodside reached 1/225. Baldock was eventually dismissed for 127 from 104 balls (20 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s) as the Warriors lost their last 9/38 to be bowled out for 263 in the 36th over. Harrison Farrelly was the destroyer for the Redbacks with 5/10 from five overs, while Luke Jones took 3/29 (7). Macclesfield were never really in the run chase as they finished their 45 overs on 8/168 with skipper Tom Filsell top scoring with 59 from 102 balls (6 x 4’s). Brad Collins (3/16) and Dave Wescombe (2/26) were the multiple wicket takers for Woodside.

Langhorne Creek moved up to second spot on the AEHCA ladder after a 31-run win over local rival Strathalbyn at Langhorne Creek on Saturday. The home side batted first and were in early trouble at 2/5 as skipper Adam Clements came to the crease. Brad Clements (26), Jagga Kotz (25) and Shane Bown (22) all made handy contributions, but it was Adam Clements who was the key to the innings. Clements went on to top score with 80 from 89 balls (7 x 4’s) as his side posted 8/201 from their 45 overs. Strathalbyn captain Brayden Gaiter was the pick of the bowlers with 3/33 (9), while Lachlan Cutting took 2/40 (7). Strathalbyn got themselves into a good position at 4/137 with Luke Cousins (44), Matthew Harris (39), Riley Tonkin (23) and Mark Abbott (21) leading the way. However, the Stallions couldn’t keep it going as they lost their last 6/33 to be bowled out for 170. Five Langhorne Creek bowlers took wickets including Adam Clements (3/27), Dan Cleggett (2/25) and Brad Clements (2/36)

Reigning premier Lobethal won their second game of the season with a tight two-wicket win over Bremer Callington at Lobethal. The Cobras batted first and were in all sorts of trouble at 3/8 before co-captain Nathan Fitzgerald (36), Liam Kemp (34) and Simon Williams (15) helped lift their team to a total of 9/113 from their 45 overs. Sam Martin (2/2), Matt Martin (2/8) and Dave Huxter (2/18) were the multiple wicket takers for the Tigers. Lobethal made a very shaky start to the run chase as they slumped to 4/19. Steve Huxter (24), Kristan Georgiou (19), Daniel Norsworthy (18 not out) and Sam Graeber (17) made useful contributions to get their side back on track as they knocked off the target in the 33rd over. Nathan Fitzgerald completed a good all-round double with 3/14 (9), while Graydon Brand snared 3/24 (8.2).
