Magpies swoop in Great Southern Cricket

Goolwa are in the box seat to win their fourth game of the season and move inside the top-6 after an excellent day one of their clash with top-of-the-ladder Willunga during round 11 action at Brian Dugmore Oval on Saturday. Willunga batted first and it was hard work against a frugal Goolwa bowling lineup. The Demons were bowled out for just 94 with Josh Jones (4/26), James Lawrence (3/21) and Jayden Crees (3/47) sharing all 10 wickets. Shaun Anderson top scored for the Demons with 23. Goolwa had 13 overs to negotiate before stumps as they finished on 1/23. 


Encounter Bay are in a good position after the first day of their match against McLaren Districts at Encounter Bay. The Bays batted first and were in early trouble at 2/18 with both openers back in the pavilion. Luke Duffill joined the in-form Sam Hoffmann to add 115 for the third wicket before Duffill went for 37 (101 balls). Hoffmann went shortly afterwards, run out for 80 from 128 balls (7 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s), while Cam Lintern gave the innings some impetus with 54 from 59 balls (7 x 4’s, 1 x 6) as Encounter Bay were bowled out for 225. McLaren Districts skipper Jim Ryan snared 4/34 (16) and he was well supported by George Beard (2/43) and Jett Holberton (2/46). 


Yankalilla and Mt Compass shared the honours on day one of their all-important clash at Yankalilla on Saturday. ‘Yank’ batted first and they were in early trouble at 4/35 before Joe Tyllis (32) and Travis Bartlett added 60 runs for the fifth wicket. Chris Clark (19) then put on 68 runs for the sixth wicket with Bartlett before he was dismissed for 79 (12 x 4’s). Yankalilla were eventually bowled out for 193 in the 52nd over with Josh Dalitz the star with the ball for ‘Compass’ with 5/20 from 14.2 overs. The Bulls had 18 overs to bat on day one and finished on 1/36 with Tyllis (1/8) the wicket taker for Yankalilla. 


Port Elliot and Noarlunga battled it out on day one of their top-four clash at Port Elliot with the home side batting first and posting a good total of 196. The score was set up by another good innings from Port Elliot skipper Joel Harris who top scored with 61 (110 balls) and he was well supported by Ethan Spriggs (38) and Brayden Arbon (25). Jason Scarff (3/33), Travis Bronstein (2/37) and Cam Bullard (2/53) were the leading wicket takers for the Shoes. 


Myponga-Sellicks are in a great position to win their second game in a row after bowling Victor Harbor out for 99 on day one of their clash at ‘Victor’. Tim Watson top scored for the Vipers with 29 not out, while Corey Finlayson made 15. Michael Tomlinson (3/13), Vinnie Nizzola (3/35), Matthew Franceschini (2/15) and Ryan Haverty (2/21) shared the 10 wickets for the Mudlarks. Myponga-Sellicks had 24 overs to bat before stumps and they finished on 4/65, just 35 runs from victory. Lachlan Hywood took 2/11 (6) for Victor Harbor.
