The Fleurieu Connections Alliance (FCA) has advised that temporary closure of the Branson Road intersection with Main South Road has been rescheduled to start this week.
To facilitate the construction of an underpass for agricultural machinery under Main South Road linking Thomas Road and Branson Road, a temporary closure of the Branson Road intersection with Main South Road will now occur from Thursday 5 January, until late in 2023.
FCA is responsible for duplication of Main South Road in two stages, from Seaford to Sellicks Beach.
It says following community feedback, an underpass will be constructed to improve safety and maintain important local connectivity for large, slow moving farming machinery within the region.
The underpass will also provide access for off-road cyclists, trail walkers, as well as safe passage for wildlife. Use of the underpass by other road users will be restricted.
The works will involve construction of the underpass structural elements, concreting, earthworks, services relocations and other general construction activities.
Signage will be in place to advise motorists of the temporary closure and available detour routes. Local access to Branson Road will be maintained via Bayliss Road.
Main South Road will remain open, with speed restrictions in place while workers are on site. Lane and other speed restrictions may apply, subject to onsite conditions.
FCA says access to properties will be maintained at all times, with advance notice to be provided if there is a need to temporarily restrict driveway access.
There will be some noise disturbance at times while these works are completed, however FCA says the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby residents and businesses as much as practically possible.
Some works may be undertaken at night, with advance notice provided.
