South coast residents have the chance to recognise Anti-Poverty Week by making a practical contribution in the local area.
Campaign organisers say more than 3 million Australians live below the poverty line; that’s 1 in 8 people.
Anti-Poverty Week supports the Australian community to gain an increased understanding of poverty and take action to collectively to end it.
The key message for 2021 says: Poverty exists. Poverty hurts us all. We can all do something about it.
In light of Anti-Poverty Week, the City of Victor Harbor is collecting donations of non-perishable food goods for those in need within the local community.
To donate to the cause, take along non-perishable food goods and place them in one of the donation bins located in the foyer of the Civic Centre on Bay Road, Victor Harbor.
This could include spare items from the cupboard like a carton of long-life milk, baked beans, spaghetti, soup or any tinned food.
Donations will be accepted in the Civic Centre foyer until 29 October.
Goods can also be dropped to the Church of Christ on Seaview Road and the Gospel Centre on George Main Road throughout the year.
All donations will be distributed by South Coast Community Christian Care
