A man has been arrested for stealing a car at Christie Downs yesterday (Monday October 17, 2022) .

On Monday 17 October a man entered a car dealership on Brighton Road, Somerton Park and test drove a vehicle. While he was there, he allegedly stole a set of car keys belonging to a Mercedes AMG sedan which was also being sold in the yard.

The man returned to the dealership later that night once it had closed and stole the Mercedes sedan.

Just before 10.30pm that same day, police attended Morton Road at Christie Downs after the vehicle's tracking device showed the Merecedes at that location.

Further enquires led police to a nearby premises where they subsequently arrested a 30-year-old man of no fixed address.

The man has been charged with illegal use, property damage and driving unlicensed.

He has been refused police bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.
