Man arrested over wood theft

A man has been arrested after allegedly stealing amounts of wood in the Adelaide Hills.

Police will allege that officers searched the man’s Macclesfield property and located the firewood which had been stolen from other locations.

The 35-year-old man was charged with theft, property damage, unlawfully on premises and failing to truly answer questions.

He was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.

Police would like to remind people to still be vigilant with their home security. Crime prevention steps you can take include:

- Security lighting should be installed around sheds, garages and other storage facilities.

- Use good quality chains and padlocks to secure entrances and consider fitting additional locks (i.e. hasps, staples) to the doors and windows.

- Tools and equipment should be locked away to prevent them from being stolen or used to gain access to sheds, garages or other storage facilities.

- Machinery, tools and equipment, including any removable parts, should be engraved or permanently marked in at least two places.

- Mark your property with your driver's licence number, prefixed by the letter 'S' for South Australia, e.g. S123456.

- Keep a record of household and farm valuables which should include make and model, serial number, value and description. Police also recommend taking images for ease of identification.

- Fallen trees on private property are owned by the landholder.
