The mains streets of Fleurieu towns have been undergoing a transformation, with government funding flowing for upgrades.
McLaren Vale is the latest, with the City of Onkaparinga approving the five-year McLaren Vale Main Street Tourism Vision Action Plan at its council meeting on 16 March.
The approval included funding of $310,000 for Year Two (2021/22) of the project.
Onkaparinga mayor Erin Thompson says the McLaren Vale Main Street Tourism Vision Action Plan will encourage visitors to stop, stay longer and spend more, bringing new money into the local economy.
“The plan supports ‘bricks and mortar’ businesses, particularly those relying heavily on tourism, who have been the hardest hit sector during COVID-19,” she says.
“We know that the McLaren Vale Business and Tourism Association is committed to assisting with the implementation of the plan, and has been working side by side with the City of Onkaparinga throughout the plan’s development.
“Together we can increase the vibrancy and appeal of Main Street to improve the lifestyle and amenities for the community and allow visitors to enjoy more of what’s on offer in our vibrant and diverse region.
The full details of the planned upgrade can be accessed on the City of Onkaparinga website.
