McLaren Vale the place to visit

McLaren Vale has made the Wotif top ten Aussie towns for 2021, coming in at number six as the only South Australian representative.

Cairns was declared number one town to visit in the fourth annual list, with the bulk of the top ten found on the east coast.

Wotif says its awards are more important than ever this year, after what has been a rocky 12 months for tourism.

The top ten was based quality of accommodation, affordability and traveller satisfaction.

“They’ve also made an effort to meet the changing needs of travellers over the last year by offering increased flexibility, good value deals and appealing activities and attractions.”

McLaren Vale was praised for its cheesemaking, wine blending, Shiraz trail, pristine coastline and multitude of cellar doors, all in close proximity to Adelaide.

City of Onkaparinga mayor Erin Thompson says it’s an honour for McLaren Vale to be recognised as a finalist in Wotif’s Aussie Town of the Year Awards.

“Our passionate tourism operators share a good story, make you feel completely at home, and know that when you leave, you will return again soon. They make this place so special.

“We know how lucky we are to be part of the McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast, which is the only place in Australia where you can experience both the coast and vines in under 45 minutes from a capital city, making it one of Australia’s top holiday destinations.

“Our world renowned wine region, nestled alongside 31kilometers of pristine beaches, is just waiting to be explored, and if you also love a great craft beer or gin and enjoy fresh local produce-driven menus, the McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast has to be on your bucket list.”
