McLaren Vale’s next public artwork should be Instagram worthy, iconic, energetic and have a quirky charm, according to the artist’s brief released by the City of Onkaparinga.
The council is seeking expressions of interest from artists interested in working on the project, which would be installed at the corner of Hewitt and Main Roads.
The brief describes it as, “an exciting new public art opportunity … planned for the heart of McLaren Vale”.
As well as being Instagram worthy, the council says the work should evoke a sense of curiosity, possibly be interactive, and engage and attract visitors to come to McLaren Vale after hearing about it.
It also says the work should encourage visitors to photograph themselves with the artwork and post the pictures on social media.
A shortlist of artists (maximum of three) will be selected to develop a concept design and will be paid an artist's fee.
The artist’s brief is available at https://www.onkaparingacity.com/.../Artist-opportunities
Applications close at 12 noon on Monday 4 April 2022.
