Two Fleurieu Men’s Sheds are among 121 across Australia to receive federal government grants.
Victor Harbor Men’s Shed and the Strathalbyn Woodshed made successful applications to the Commonwealth National Shed Development Program.
Men’s Sheds help men find social support and engage in meaningful community projects.
They can be purpose-built facilities, multipurpose buildings, or shared spaces that are used regularly to foster positive community spirit among men.
The National Shed Development Program awards grants to Men’s Sheds in three categories – health and wellbeing events, shed improvements, and equipment.
Sheds are able to apply for funding and grants up to a total of $10,000, with priority given to sheds in disadvantaged areas.
Up to $1 million across two grant rounds are available every year for sheds across Australia.
Victor Harbor Men’s Shed will use its $6,209 grant for first aid, mental health first aid and safety training along with tools and equipment.
The Strathalbyn Woodshed plans to enclose its outdoor entrance and install power to a new container.
More information about the grants is available online. at https://mensshed.org/
