Great Southern (GSCA) will clash with Alexandra & Eastern Hills (AEHCA) in the H.R Meyer Shield Grand Final at Soldiers Memorial Park in Kingscote tomorrow (26/1) after the completion of the minor round matches today.
After defeating Kangaroo Island on day one, Great Southern comfortably defeated Murray Towns (MTCA) by 102 runs at Wisanger today. Great Southern batted first with Travis Bronstein making 85 (95 balls) and Luke Bartlett 70 (100 balls) in an innings-defining 122-run stand for the second wicket. After a middle order ‘wobble’, brought on by a fine spell of bowling from MTCA veteran Dwayne Krollig (4/20), Sean Williams (42) and Paul Fantasia (33 not out) lifted Great Southern to an imposing total of 9/265 from their 50 overs. Camron Jorgensen (3/38) and Umesh Badu (2/34) were the other multiple wicket takers for Murray Towns. Krollig continued his good day, top scoring for MTCA with 53 (78), while Nick Lindner made 25 (42), but ultimately Murray Towns fell well short as they were bowled out in the 44th over for 163. Bronstein (3/21), Sunny Osmont (3/33) and Kieran Garrett (2/49) were the leading wicket takers for Great Southern.
Hills (HCA) won their first game of the weekend after defeating Alexandra & Eastern Hills (AEHCA) by five runs in a thriller at Kingscote. AEHCA needed 10 runs from the last over bowled by Hills seamer Jake Turnbull (2/47), but could only manage four runs. Earlier, Hills batted first and compiled a healthy 5/251 from their 50 overs. Jack Read (86) and Josh Healey (58) put on 132 runs for the first wicket, while Josh Callaghan (31 not out) and Aaron Thompson (26) made handy contributions. Caleb Walker (2/35) and Sam Graeber (2/50) were the multiple wicket takers for Alexandra & Eastern Hills. AEHCA began the run chase with Ty Watson (49) and Tanner King (33) putting on 59 for the first wicket. Skipper Luke Timmins, coming off 70 not out yesterday, made 80 (97), while Matthew Harris chipped in with 29 (27), but in the end it was a bridge too far as their side finished on 9/246. Steve Featherstone was the best of the Hills bowlers with 3/29 (10).
In the final game of round two, Torrens Valley (TVCA) defeated hosts Kangaroo Island (KICA) by 29 runs at Parndana. Torrens Valley batted first with Tyson Rowe top scoring with 87 from 109 balls (10 x 4’s) as his side posted 7/222. Luke Faucett (28), Lachie Cannard (26), Steve Kavanagh (21) and Jack Roesler (20) also made handy contributions. Tyler Richardson (2/22) and Rhys Bullard (2/30) were the multiple wicket takers for Kangaroo Island. The KI run chase was underpinned by a fine innings of 86 (92 balls) from Liam Sampson. Unfortunately Jack Hinton (21) was the only other player to reach 20 as Kangaroo Island were bowled out for 197 in the 48th over. Angus Shapley (3/29), Kavanagh (3/31) and Zach McKenny (2/25) were the leading wicket takers for Torrens Valley.
